What the week costs.

The saving comes from two promotions: pork loin (Schweinsnierstück) at CHF 1.50 instead of 2.75 per 100 g (1.2 kg for the schnitzel and the katsudon, CHF 15.00 saved) and mild Emmentaler at CHF 1.20 instead of 1.55 per 100 g (400 g for the sausage and cheese salad, CHF 1.40 saved). Both packs are used up completely.

At the till you pay more than the quantities used, because you buy whole packs. Oil, spices, flour, breadcrumbs, mustard and the like stay in the pantry and last for more weeks. Prices are for the week from 28 September 2026. In your branch they can differ.

Why this plan is cheap.

  • One big promotion, used twice

The pork loin was 45% cheaper and covers two dishes. This one promotion brings CHF 15.00 of the CHF 16.40 saving.

  • Cook once, eat twice

Four dinners are cooked in double quantity. That way 6 recipes cover 10 meals.

  • Own brands for the basics

Bratwurst, eggs, breadcrumbs, chopped tomatoes and soy sauce are M-Budget.

  • One store

Everything comes from Migros: one trip, one list.

How to plan your own cheap week.

  1. Start with the promotions

First check which meat, fish or cheese is on promotion this week, and plan two dishes around it.

  2. Plan leftovers on purpose

Cook a double quantity in the evening and eat the rest the next day at lunch.

  3. Use ingredients more than once

Potatoes, onions or eggs in several dishes use up the whole pack.

  4. Pantry first

What is already at home does not go on the list.

  5. Own brands for the basics

Pasta, rice, flour, tins and eggs from the cheapest line.

  6. One or two stores

That keeps shopping simple. A third store is worth it when a big promotion is waiting there.

Questions

Answered briefly.

How much does a cheap weekly meal plan cost in Switzerland?

It depends on household, stores and promotions. In the example, 10 meals for 2 adults at Migros cost CHF 69.78 for the quantities used, or CHF 3.49 per portion. For comparison: according to the Federal Statistical Office, an average household spends CHF 629 a month on food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Why do I pay more at the till than the plan costs?

Does a cheap weekly plan work for vegetarians?

Yes. Eini also plans vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, nut-free, low-carb or high-protein weeks, always from the week’s promotions.
