What you enter, what you get

You enter:

• Your household: single or married, with or without children
• Your income
• Your workplace and your office days per week
• If you like, a photo of your lease. The details are filled in, and the image is never stored.

• A ranking of places by what you keep each month
• The Lifestyle-Check: the highest rent you can afford in each city, on the same income and the same standard of living

Why rent alone misleads

A cheaper flat does not always mean a cheaper life. Rent is only one of several big costs that change with where you live.

Tax depends on the canton and the municipality. Your health insurance premium also depends on where you live. The commute costs money and time, depending on distance and how you travel.

So a higher rent can still leave you better off. That happens when tax and premium drop more than the rent rises. The reverse is also true: a low rent gets expensive if tax, premium or commute cost more.

Eini adds these costs together instead of looking at them one by one. You see what a move really costs before you sign a lease.

Where the numbers come from

• Tax: an estimate based on official data from the Federal Tax Administration (ESTV), for your municipality.
• Health insurance: the official premiums approved by the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), as listed on Priminfo.
• Commute: real public transport and car routes, for the cost and time of your journey to work.
• Rent: estimated values per place. They show an order of magnitude, not the price of a specific flat.
