Four autumn sheet-pan dinners for four people cost between CHF 1.45 and CHF 2.87 per portion at regular supermarket prices. All four trays together make 16 portions for CHF 34.56, or CHF 2.16 per portion on average.

Each tray uses products from one store. Chicken legs and the Älplermagronen gratin come from Migros, Bratwurst from Coop and the pumpkin tray from Denner. The most expensive tray is the one with pumpkin and eggs, because eggs and cheese make up almost half of its cost.

The four trays at a glance

Regular prices from Eini's price data, collected on 23 September 2026 (Coop, Denner, Aldi) and 24 September 2026 (Migros). Prices change; promotions and regional offers can differ. We count only the quantity that goes on the tray. A 5 kg bag of potatoes costs CHF 5.60, but one tray uses CHF 0.84 of it. Salt, pepper and dried herbs are not counted.

The product matters more than the store. In our data, 1 kg of carrots costs CHF 1.95 at Coop (Prix Garantie), Denner and Migros. One litre of rapeseed oil costs CHF 3.50 at all three. Chicken legs cost CHF 6.98 per kg at Coop (Prix Garantie, about 860 g for CHF 6.00). Aldi charges CHF 5.59 for 800 g (CHF 6.99 per kg), and Migros CHF 7.00 for 1 kg.

Oven energy: An efficient oven (class A+, 69 litres) uses about 0.65 kWh for one standardised fan-oven cycle (EKZ info sheet, 2025). That cycle is the test behind the EU energy label. The ElCom median for a typical household (profile H4) in 2026 is 27.7 Rp./kWh (ElCom, 9 September 2025). One tray therefore costs about CHF 0.18 in electricity, under 5 Rappen per portion. The value depends strongly on the model and is not included in the costs above.

  1. Heat the oven to 200 °C. Cut the potatoes into wedges, the carrots and beetroot into chunks and the onions into quarters.
  2. Toss the vegetables with the oil, salt and pepper and spread them on the tray. Keep the beetroot at one end, as it colours everything red.
  3. Lay the chicken legs on top, skin side up, and season them. Roast for 40 to 45 minutes, until the skin is crisp and the meat is cooked through to the bone.

Tray 2: Bratwurst with potatoes, peppers and onions

The cheapest meat tray in this comparison, made entirely with Coop's Prix Garantie line.

  1. Heat the oven to 200 °C. Cut the potatoes into 2 cm cubes, toss them with half the oil and some salt, and roast for 20 minutes.
  2. Add the peppers in strips, the onions in wedges and the rest of the oil. Put the sausages on top.
  3. Roast for another 20 to 25 minutes, turning the sausages once, until they are browned.

Prefer OLMA Bratwurst? A 320 g pack costs CHF 3.60 at Coop (Prix Garantie), Denner and Migros, and CHF 3.59 at Aldi. With two packs from Coop (640 g), the tray costs CHF 10.64, or CHF 2.66 per portion.

Tray 3: Hokkaido pumpkin, broccoli and baked eggs

Hokkaido is the easiest pumpkin for a tray, because it goes into the oven with its skin on. Prices by variety are in our pumpkin and squash guide.

  1. Heat the oven to 200 °C. Cut the unpeeled pumpkin into wedges, halve the potatoes and cut the onions into wedges. Toss with the oil and some salt, then roast for 25 minutes.
  2. Add the broccoli florets and roast for 10 minutes more.
  3. Make eight hollows and crack an egg into each. Scatter the cheese over and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the whites are set.

Eggs and cheese account for CHF 5.32 of the CHF 11.48. That is why this vegetarian tray costs more than the Bratwurst tray.

Tray 4: Älplermagronen gratin from the tray

The only tray that needs a pot first, and the cheapest at CHF 1.45 per portion. Älplermagronen is the Swiss alpine dish of pasta, potatoes, cream and cheese, served with Apfelmus (apple purée). More ideas are in our post on Swiss classics on a budget.

  1. Cut the potatoes into 2 cm cubes and boil them in salted water for 5 minutes. Add the Hörnli and cook until al dente. Drain, keeping a cup of the cooking water.
  2. Mix with the cream, two thirds of the cheese and a little cooking water, and spread on a deep tray. Top with the rest of the cheese and the onion rings tossed in the oil.
  3. Bake at 220 °C for about 15 minutes, until golden. Serve with the Apfelmus.

The 5 kg bag of potatoes from Tray 1 covers this tray too: 750 g plus 500 g, with 3.75 kg left over.
