What the comparison shows.

  • 19 of 23 the same

spaghetti, penne, rice, sugar, cooking butter, milk, yogurt, mozzarella, tinned tomatoes, olive oil, sunflower oil, potatoes, carrots, onions, apples, tomatoes, broccoli, single cream and Gruyère cost the same per kilo, litre or piece, rounded to the centime.

  • Tuna and toast

less than 1% apart, a few centimes per kilo.

  • Eggs

Migros is 1 centime cheaper per egg (15 eggs: CHF 4.80 instead of CHF 4.95). The Migros product name says “Import”.

  • Courgettes

Coop is 50 centimes cheaper per kilo (CHF 2.80 instead of CHF 3.30).

A basket with 1 kg each of spaghetti, penne, rice and sugar, 250 g butter, 1 l milk, 500 g yogurt, 400 g mozzarella, 15 eggs, 400 g tinned tomatoes, 1 l each of olive and sunflower oil, 1 kg each of potatoes, carrots, onions, apples, tomatoes, courgettes and broccoli, 150 g tuna, 500 g toast, 500 ml single cream and 250 g Gruyère costs CHF 55.40 at Coop and CHF 55.75 at Migros. Where the pack is bigger or smaller, we converted to these amounts.

Where Coop and Migros really differ.

  • Promotions

in the week from 28 September 2026, Eini recorded 422 food promotions at Coop and 174 at Migros. The median discount was 20.4% (Coop) and 20.0% (Migros). How many promotions appear also depends on how each store publishes them.

  • Brand line, not store

Barilla penne cost CHF 3.40 per kilo at Coop, almost three times Prix Garantie at CHF 1.20. The line you pick matters more than the store.

  • Pack size

at Migros, onions cost CHF 1.50 per kilo in the 2 kg pack from M-Budget and CHF 1.70 in the 1 kg pack.

Older comparisons with bigger baskets and branded products, such as K-Tipp in 2022, found larger differences between stores. For pure budget lines, regular prices are often identical today.

How to compare for yourself.

  1. Compare the price per kilo or litre on the shelf label, not the pack price.

  2. Compare the same quality: barn eggs with barn eggs, organic with organic, imported with imported.

  3. Keep regular prices and promotions apart. A promotion only lasts a short time; the regular price stays.

  4. Check the pack size: bigger packs are often cheaper per kilo, but only pay off if you use everything.
